Museum Dr. Mena
Antonio Tomás Mena was born in 1802 near Ampuyenta. His journey took him from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Cuba, Paris and the United States of America, where he completed his medical and philosophy studies.
In Havana he earned as a physician in the fight against cholera, malaria, yellow fever and other tropical diseases.
In 1847 he returned to Fuerteventura and left in Ampuyenta build a U-shaped house in which he for the benefit of the population free of charge in many cases practiced.
Dr. Mena has left his fortune to the establishment of the Charity Hospital of San Conrado San Gaspar in Ampuyenta.
His house was on the island's government in 1999 turned into a museum and opened to the public.
The house shows how to live and work in the upper level at the time looked like and is still amazing today visitors about the tasteful and luxurious furnishings.
